About 18 months after we published the model in Nature Magazine Communications, we finally came up with a name! The ASU/USYD Heat-Lim model: Human/Environmental Adaptation and Threshold Limits Model (HEAT-Lim) is based on our 2023 paper: https://lnkd.in/eDq4_ywq It enables users to estimate both the #heat stress conditions that will limit future human “survivability” (due to critical heat stroke) and human “liveability” (an inability to maintain a steady core temperature) both in shade and sun. The code for the model is open source and we are working behind the scenes to keep improving its functionality and breadth of applications. Coming soon will also be a series of collaborative papers that examine the new insights we gain from these models, and human studies that seek to validate these modelled upper limits. PSYCHOLOGICAL TESTING TECHNICIAN PROGRAM! UCI has developed a program to provide training for students to qualify for a clinical registration with the Board of Psychology as a Psychological Testing Technician. This was developed in collaboration with Dr. Elizabeth Cauffman, the Director of the MLFP Program and the Center for Psychology and Law, and Dr. Jason Schiffman, the Director of Clinical Training in the Department of Psychological Science. We are still currently reviewing applications to consider students for admission to the Psychological Testing Technician Certification Program at UCI for the 2025-2026 school year. The main requirements include: a) Bachelor's degree in Psychology or in Education (specializing in educational psychology, counseling psychology or school psychology); b) ability to complete certification coursework; c) ability to complete 60 hours of training with a CA-licensed psychologist; and d) ability to commit 8 hours per week to their training site We have a number of sites across Southern California where students would be trained in psychological assessment. The total cost for the program is $16,000, with the first $7,000 paid to UCI Division of Continuing Education at the time of enrollment and the remaining installments paid at a later date. Legislative Analyst’s Office recommends state lawmakers “continue to monitor whether existing programs are meeting their objectives cost‑effectively and make adjustments accordingly. While a new CSU graduation initiative likely would provide some state benefits (such as enhanced economic mobility), those benefits could be less sizable or less significant than the potential public benefits of other state programs.” https://lnkd.in/gEPYAXsj

The IAPC is pleased to release another video recording in our series of oral history interivews. Veteran teacher Terry L. Allen tells about learning philosophy for children from a class he took from Dale Cannon at the University of Washington in Oregon while teaching school in Salem, Oregon (see attached articles). He describes his masters and doctoral degrees in philosophy for children at Montclair State University – including his memories of Matthew Lipman, Ann Margaret Sharp, and David Kennedy – culminating in his doctoral dissertation, "Exploring Worldview Perspectives with 8th Grade Students: Criteria-Mapping as a Method of Value Disclosure and Worldview Discovery" (also available on the IAPC Digital Archive). Allen discusses his 32 teaching at Eastern Christian Middle School in Wyckoff, New Jersey, where he practices a “Pedagogy of Asking,” to engage young people in philosophical dialogue in a community of inquiry to work out their own beliefs and values. The #IsraelAntiquitiesAuthority (#IAA) opened an exhibit about archaeologists' work applying their skills to finding and identifying bodies and body-parts to bring a measure of closure to the bereft after "the black sabbath" of Oct 7.
