“I had the privilege of managing Jake Essig at Truckstop for just over 3 years. During that time, I saw tremendous growth from Jake in his skillset, as well as his leadership capabilities. During my time as manager, I had the honor of promoting Jake to Lead Infrastructure Engineer. He earned this promotion through his caring and thoughtful approach to projects and issues at Truckstop.com. Jake is always learning and improving his skills. He then shares what he has learned with the rest of the team. Jake was not only a leader on our team, but he also acted as the principal engineer for Truckstop's Business Systems team assisting them with managing Windows and Linux server configurations in both AWS and Microsoft Azure. Jake has demonstrated excellent knowledge using Terraform, building CI/CD pipelines, Microsoft Azure Cloud, AWS, Kubernetes, Ansible, and AI technologies. Jake was a key member on several projects within our team. He was the primary engineer working on building our CI/CD pipelines for Liquibase to bring a git approach to our databases. Jake also built several automation scripts at Truckstop to reduce toil and speed up processes. These automation processes greatly reduced the amount of time it took to deploy infrastructure for new services onto Kubernetes, configure credentials, and add them to our Azure key vaults and AWS Secrets Manager. Jake worked closely with our Data Science and Data Engineering teams to assist them in building AI and Machine Learning platforms for Truckstop on key products like Risk Factors and Rate Insights across both Azure and AWS clouds. Most recently, Jake has really progressed into architecture type of work. As Truckstop was shifting from Chef to Ansible, he iteratively worked on the architecture and design for managing Ansible playbooks, how to manage them in git, and how to manage execution of playbooks across Truckstop’s platform. Jake raises everyone around him, and truly understands how to work in a fast paced environment with constant change. Jake brings a calmness to projects and incidents with his in-depth knowledge of systems and cloud infrastructure.”
