It’s about how the entire ecosystem evolves to serve fans, leagues, and brands at the same time. Live sports remain the most powerful engine for real-time connection in media. What’s changing is how — and where — that connection happens. A few open questions shaping the next era: 👉 What does “mass reach” mean when audiences are spread across platforms? 👉 How will media plans adapt to simultaneous broadcast + streaming ecosystems? 👉 What balance best serves both revenue growth and fan accessibility? 👉 How will measurement evolve to reflect true cross-platform impact? 👉 What new opportunities emerge for innovation in fan experience? In this week's column, I ask again if we in the TV industry are focused on transforming our core business. As I wrote previously, initiatives like datacasting are real and will provide meaningful revenue opportunities to transform how revenue is generated from broadcast spectrum. However, what about our core business? Creating and airing content that connects audiences with advertisers. Will streaming content on FAST services and apps transform the business? What about the audiences who are still viewing content on linear TV? Will these audiences still be of interest to advertisers? Shouldn't we be advancing the technology to ensure 100% of our audiences can drive the greatest value for broadcasters and advertisers? https://lnkd.in/gfMy6Cuh

Piracy is still the single biggest issue for our industry. We all scramble to address the changing dynamics of Media & Entertainment, discussing M&A, streaming subscriptions vs linear decline to look smart… but $$$s continue to flood out of the industry. Daniel Domenjó sums it up perfectly in this article, video and sports piracy is a “practice… not socially stigmatised and has not been sufficiently addressed by policymakers”. Beyond the suggestions from Daniel in the article, the only way this is addressed is by the industry working together to lobby governments. https://lnkd.in/duvArnPv
