At the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT), documentation has become a cornerstone of enterprise GIS operations. Within ADOT’s Multimodal Planning Division, teams maintain extensive documentation covering feature metadata, HPMS data structures, data collection requirements, web applications, processing procedures, and onboarding resources for new staff. At this year's AASHTO (American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials) GIS-T Symposium his session, Jake Gamble (Sanborn) and Brittanie Hambrick (Works Consulting LLC) will be holding a workshop regarding hhow ADOT is strengthening its single source of operational truth by migrating documentation from OneNote and Google platforms into a centralized Confluence document management system. By capturing and processing data from a range of platforms—such as drones, aircraft, satellites, and mobile mapping systems—reality mapping produces detailed imagery, point clouds, and 3D meshes that power analysis, visualization, and decision-making. These products have applications across nearly every industry, from infrastructure management and environmental monitoring to urban planning and public safety. This session will explore the end-to-end reality mapping workflow, from data acquisition to product generation, highlighting the tools, techniques, and best practices that ensure quality and efficiency. Attendees will gain a clear understanding of how to integrate reality mapping into their own GIS workflows to create richer, more actionable geospatial content.
