Vietnam Talents Awards, jointly organised by the Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) and the Dan Tri Newspaper, aims to encourage creativity and honour talents in information technology and communications, as well as in natural sciences, health and environment.

One third prize (no first and second prizes) of the category mobile service applications was presented to the product, SnapNSee, super-quick search software for smart phone using camera.

The award is for QuickCount in the category of Best Instructional Software Award. The Best Instructional Software Award recognizes a work that enhances the teaching of political science through the use of technology.

This prestigious award honors two deserving startups affiliated with the University of Iowa. Recipients of this award exhibit passion, devotion and innovation in planning and deploying their startup and have either made significant progress over the years, or have made an impact as determined by jobs created, revenue generated, or other metrics. For the purpose of this award, a startup is defined as a breakout company that has been operational for 3 years or less.

The John Pappajohn Entrepreneurial Center (JPEC) and the University of Iowa Research Foundation (UIRF) sponsor the Elevator Pitch Competition for University of Iowa faculty, staff, graduate students, and startup companies with a principal address at the UI Research Park or at the Bedell Entrepreneurship Learning Laboratory. The competition allows for early-stage entrepreneurs to compete for start-up capital for their business idea. Participants will compete for $30,000 in total cash prizes.

The BELL End-of-Semester Competition is open to all current participants in the Bedell Entrepreneurship Learning Laboratory (BELL) program. Participants are evaluated by virtual judges around the nation based on the progress that was made to their businesses over the current semester.

The Volding competition allows aspiring student entrepreneurs to compete for seed money to assist them in starting their new companies. The awards are funded by Merle Volding, founder of BancTec, a worldwide provider of payment processing solutions located in Irving, Texas. In September 2000, John Pappajohn created a statewide business plan competition to encourage and help Iowa undergraduate and graduate students pursue their interests in starting their own companies. Regional competitions are held at each of the John Pappajohn Entrepreneurial Centers in Iowa. Regional finalists present their plan to John Pappajohn and his staff at Equity Dynamics Inc.

William and Flora Hewlett Foundation awarded the Vietnam Foundation a grant of $30K for modulating and posting Vietnamese college textbooks and learning modules on VOER website. I was in charge to help VNF design the project ad write the grant application.

The Vietnam Education Foundation (VEF) is an independent U.S. Federal Government agency created by the U.S. Congress. VEF receives an annual budget of U.S. $5 million from the U.S. Congress until 2018. The mission of VEF is to strengthen the U.S.-Vietnam bilateral relationship through educational exchanges in the STEMM fields. Fellowship Program, bringing Vietnamese nationals to the United States for graduate degree programs, funded through cost-sharing agreements with U.S. universities.

Sponsored by the Center of International Cooperation for Computerization, Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, the scholarship covers all expenses for a 3-month training course in Open Source Software Development in Tokyo, Japan.

Vietnam Intellect is a national software contest for Vietnamese citizens under 30. The contest is organized annually by Vietnam Television (VTV), Laodong Newspaper, and FPT Corporation from 2000. We win 1st place out of 232 teams from all parts of the country.
