My opinions are my own and not necessarily those of my organization. AI in healthcare will only succeed if we fix regulatory roadblocks, not algorithms, and the biggest challenge is making data flow freely rather than building smarter models. I’m still learning how policy shapes what technology can actually achieve in healthcare, and this is one of the biggest lessons I’ve encountered so far. The proposed deregulatory rule from ASTP/ONC in the Federal Register focuses on reducing regulatory burden, revising certain certification criteria, and addressing reported misuse of information blocking definitions. Its goal is to provide flexibility for developers and providers while supporting innovation in health IT. From my experience exploring health IT systems, seeing regulatory friction removed in practice is eye-opening and it shows how rules and standards can either accelerate or slow innovation. Three trends stand out: 1. Regulatory Burden as Innovation Bottleneck Simplifying outdated or redundant regulations shows that policy, not just technology, can unlock progress. 2. Flexibility as a Strategic Lever Modular and API-friendly approaches demonstrate that innovation thrives when rules adapt to technology. 3. Policy Grounded in Real-World Feedback Addressing misuse of information blocking reflects regulations shaped by practical experience and stakeholder input. Continuing to enhance my knowledge of cloud platforms and interoperability helps me bridge policy with real-world solutions. I’m still learning, but it’s clear that those who understand both technology and regulation will define the next era of patient-centered, market-driven healthcare innovation. No company scales in healthcare alone. It can build trust in a relationship-driven industry, shorten sales cycles, expand market reach, and improve implementation and adoption. In healthcare, companies that align with surrounding workflows, technologies, and stakeholders often gain momentum more quickly. Successful founders prioritize partnerships from the outset, incorporating them into growth strategies with intention, structure, and a clear focus on mutual value. It had to be said! 🎯 Epic's stranglehold on healthcare IT has stifled innovation for too long and the writing is on the wall. The consolidation myth needs to die already. We were promised efficiency and lower costs, but what we got was bloated bureaucracies that prioritize profits over patients. The data doesn't lie: smaller, agile providers consistently outperform these healthcare monopolies on both outcomes and patient satisfaction. Time for a major reset in how we think about healthcare delivery.

The expert noted the inherent advantages that legacy EHR (Electronic Health Record) companies have as the gate keeper of features. As shown by Epic's (private) recent announcement to develop an internal AI scribe solution, EHR vendors are in a position to limit third-party integration for features such as order mapping, pre-charting or clinical decision support. He noted an increased focus on AI by Oracle Cerner (ORCL, covered by Keith Weiss) post the merger.
