Mentoring on the Mainframe Your junior or midlevel systems programmer knows there is a problem. They are “pretty sure” they know what they need to do, but they want to make sure they don’t make a mistake. They spend several hours looking through Redbooks.   Look through system documentation trying to determine if the fix they have in mind is the correct one. Is this PTF going to impact production? They are talking to IBM support to verify that what they are about to implement won’t impact production. But they still have doubts. Your sys progs wish that they could talk with someone that can look at the problem they are facing and let them know if they are doing the right thing. Let them know they won’t cause a Sev1. If your systems programmers are struggling a bit and need a little support, reach out to me. Anthropic quietly launched their first technical certification last week: Claude Certified Architect (CCA), Foundations. https://lnkd.in/ecAuGRCy If you use Claude seriously, this is worth looking at. This is not an AI literacy badge. It is a proctored technical exam focused on how Claude is actually used in production systems. The exam covers five domains: • Agentic Architecture and Orchestration 27% • Claude Code Configuration and Workflows 20% • Prompt Engineering and Structured Output 20% • Tool Design and MCP Integration 18% • Context Management and Reliability 15% The weighting tells you a lot. More than half of the exam is focused on agentic systems and configuration, which is really where the power of Claude shows up when you move beyond simple chat use cases. If you want to become a true power user of Claude, these are exactly the areas that matter. Architecture, tooling, reliability, and structured outputs. Early access is currently free for Claude Partner Network members, which makes it a pretty low risk way to deepen your understanding of how to actually build with the platform. Unexpected benefit of coding with Cursor: "I accidentally did a git reset --hard, redo the last set of changes" Cursor has redone the changes in a couple of minutes. They don't work this time any more than they did last time, but at least the code is in the same non-working state as before...

Forward deployed teams, especially those working for startups, have to learn to thrive inside a dichotomy: We’re working with technology the is at the cutting edge of the industry. But at the same time, our job is to integrate with companies that often have: • Legacy systems and tech stacks • Process debt they’ve picked up but can’t get rid of yet for X reason • Teams that are amazing at what they do but know very little about AI You can’t show up to a company and expect them to all mold themselves to perfectly fit this new technology. Instead it is our job to figure out how to make this new tech fit into their systems while still being incredibly powerful. In a nutshell — if you’re forward-deployed, but not backwards compatible, you won’t be successful.

If coding agents struggle to work with your code so will humans. Agent friendly code bases, are also human friendly. Human co-pilots use agents to make your code base more agent and human friendly.
