🚨 MASSIVE CYBERATTACK AFFECTS NEVADA STATE TECHNOLOGY SYSTEMS 🚨 🔴 IMMEDIATE IMPACT The state of Nevada is facing significant disruption to its technology systems following a confirmed cyberattack. Multiple state agencies are reporting failures in critical services, including professional licensing systems and government portals. Governor Joe Lombardo's office has activated emergency protocols to contain the spread. 🛡️ CONTAINMENT MEASURES Authorities have preemptively disconnected several state servers to prevent further spread. Incident response teams are working with federal cybersecurity experts to determine the scope of the attack and restore priority services. The possible origin and methodology of the attack are under investigation. 📊 AFFECTED SERVICES Professional licensing systems temporarily suspended, tax payment portals interrupted, and limited access to state databases. Some telephone services are also experiencing intermittent outages. Citizens and businesses are advised to use alternative channels for urgent procedures. 🔍 ONGOING INVESTIGATION Although not officially confirmed, unofficial sources suggest it could be a ransomware attack. No confirmed personal data breaches have been reported at this early stage. State of Nevada, Governor's Technology Office
Big step forward for Nevada’s cyber defense. Assembly Bill 1 has cleared both houses of the Legislature and is signed by Gov. Lombardo. This will do more than respond to last summer’s cyber incident — it formalizes a statewide Security Operations Center (SOC) inside the Governor’s Technology Office and help build the next generation of Nevada’s cyber workforce. AB 1 affirms the Office of Information Security and Cyber Defense, creates a dedicated funding structure for the SOC, and requires regular reporting on how well it’s working. Just as important, it lays the foundation for a Cybersecurity Talent Pipeline Program in partnership with the Nevada System of Higher Education, connecting students in computer science and cybersecurity with real pathways into public service. What we are most proud of is the level of collaboration this represents: state agencies, local governments, K-12, and higher ed all pulling in the same direction after a very tough incident. We’re turning hard lessons into a durable, statewide defense plan. Grateful to our legislative partners, to State CIO Timothy Galluzi for his leadership, and to the many teams across Nevada who helped shape this bill. Attorney General Alliance
The panel on “Critical Infrastructure and the Threat Posed by Nation-State Actors” featured John Skidmore, Deputy Attorney General of Alaska, Spencer Fisher of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, and Kevin Hinrichs of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The discussion highlighted the growing threats posed by nation-state actors and cybercriminals targeting U.S. infrastructure and consumers. Panelists emphasized how their agencies are working hand-in-hand with state and local governments, as well as private sector partners, to defend against these attacks. The conversation returned to the importance of resilience, response, and risk management as the foundation of a collaborative defense strategy.
