“Bettyjo served as our inaugural Vice Provost of Digital Strategy & Operations at NLU and served in similar, online-focused roles in the years leading up to it. Dr. Bouchey was a key member of our Academic and President Cabinets as the thought-leader in digital education and, drawing on her extension experience in operations, she would also often serve as someone who could help us think through how an initiative or policy might impact other areas of our institution as well. Myself and the rest of the Provost Office came to rely upon her for this type of systems-thinking and for her ability to thoughtfully weigh benefits and consequences of making one choice over another. Her leadership in the formal creation of our Adult & Online Education unit was an important step in us solidifying our online footprint; taking the years of more organic approaches and bringing them into a cohesive and strategically focused set of teams focused on creating and maintaining a signature online experience. Bettyjo was also key member of our innovation culture and would lead and participate in projects meant to improve service to our students and faculty such as revitalizing our Credit for Prior Learning office, creating a holistic student orientation, implementing an electronic syllabus, and ideating and collaborating with colleges in new educational delivery formats such as low residency and competency-based education and other projects meant to disrupt the status quo and serve students in new and effective ways. She is an authentic leader focused on the needs of the institution, her teams, and the many stakeholders her work touches. I often relied on Bettyjo as a thought partner and leader as we explored new initiatives that carried university-wide implications. Bettyjo is a proactive leader who stays abreast on the latest trends in online education, incorporating cutting-edge technologies, and worked to ensure that our institution remained at the forefront of digital learning. Her commitment to creating a supportive and inclusive online learning environment has fostered a sense of community among our online students. Bettyjo is a legitimate authority in the online education arena and is often a sought-after source of expertise on innovative approaches to improve online instructional quality and the student experience. Overall, I have been consistently impressed with Bettyjo’s leadership, professionalism, and passion for advancing online education. Her contributions have not only positively impacted our institution but have also positioned us as a leader in the field of online learning.”
