When I was chatting to Lynn Bender about submitting a speaker talk at Data Day Texas (DDT), he made one thing very clear. DDT presentations were always based on new content. One of the many reasons DDT is such a success, it has content you won’t have seen in any other conference, content you won’t easily find online in a Youtube channel etc. Which is always a challenge for a presentation submission. It’s so much easier to submit a presentation you have done before, a presentation where you know the content and the positioning of that content well. Creating fresh new content is so much more effort, than pulling something out of your toolkit. Not to mention that for DDT you submit your speaker talk mid 2025 for something you will deliver early 2026. But it does mean you have to think about the future, not about what the bullshit buzzword for Jan 2026 will be (cough cough “Context Graph”), but what is a subject that is sustainable, something that will still be relevant 6 months later. For me it also gave me a chance to think about a theme for 2026, what would I want to think about, work on and write about for 2026. In 2025 I was experimenting on how to use the outputs from an Information Product Canvas in the next parts of the Information Value Stream. So that was the guts of my speaker proposal, a tail of two halves. A whirlwind tour of a completed Information Product Canvas to anchor the context of each area of the canvas (first half). And then more depth on how I use that content later in my Data Work (second half). For this second half there were lots of data work where I reused the canvas content. I decided to focus on how I use it to create the initial Data Design. The title of my session on the DDT website is: "How to gather data requirements in 30 minutes or less - the Information Product Canvas" But in reality the title of the talk is better described as: From Discovery to Design: Using the Information Product Canvas to Accelerate Data Design As I finalise the content for the session next Saturday, I am of course tempted to completely change it. Not to curtail to bullshit buzzwords like “Context Graph” (but I do look forward to robust discussion of this term on the DDT Sunday if what I heard about the “define a data product” discussion from last year is anything to go by). But to make it about the conversations and insights Juha Korpela and I have been having as part of the process of defining a repeatable process to Modeling Business Concepts for our book. Right now I am down a rabbit hole of what happens if we record an audio version of the data story and then use GenAI to assist people in creating the data design. But then I catch myself, Saturday 24th is but a week away I would say these new ideas/content would make a great 2027 joint submission by Juha and myself.  But alas this is the last year for DDT. How To Claim Unclaimed Property Money – Step By Step Unclaimed property is actually money that came back to the sender undeliverable in the mail. It represents undelivered returned checks. For the past 30 years, by law in all of the states, payors of these funds must send these payments to the state. It is up to the payee to claim this money.  States do not notify the recipients/owners.   These monies stem from undelivered checks from insurance companies, title companies, uncashed refund checks from manufacturers, lost rent deposits, overpayments, class action lawsuits and many more sources due payable to both companies and individuals.   Follow these instructions to see online if you have any monies held in these funds. When searching, just change the state to that where the person or company is located. ·        Google, “Texas Unclaimed Property” (or your particular state). (Claimittexas.gov) ·        For Texas, of the options presented on the first page of results, select the option with the word “OFFICIAL”. Note: Choose the official site for your state’s program. ·        For Texas, hit the GET STARTED button in the middle of the screen. ·        Enter either the business name or the individual’s last name, then in the next box, enter the first name. Most all of the states are fairly similar in their programs. ·        Note: Try different spellings (assume they misspelled your name or company) and LOOK ON ALL RESULTS PAGES. On foreign names, assume they may have been entered backwards. Try both spellings. ·        Search all addresses in the past 35+ years since laws were passed. ·        Try entering only the first letter of the first name versus the whole name to increase the chances of getting more results. ·        Do not enter any other data which will restrict the search (i.e., city, zip code).  Leave the other fields open before searching. ·        If you find any amount that belongs to the name, hit the claim button select the "I AM THE OWNER". ·        Fill out the data, you will get back an email and a form to complete to apply to get the money. Individuals need to show a copy of their ID and proof of their SS# (SS card, tax return copy or W2 copy is good).   ·        Fill out the form and mail it to the address they provide to you along with your backup. (or submit online) ·        Make a copy of the claim for yourself before sending it in case you get rejected. TRY AGAIN. Send it again with more backup!. ·        Check unclaimed property for all states the company has facilities, or all states the individual has lived over the past 30 years to be safe. ·        NOTE: Also check for deceased individuals (executors can claim the funds)  All payors (individuals and businesses) are required by law if unable to locate the legal owner, to turn undelivered funds to the state. These funds have been accumulating since the late 1980s in all 50 states anow probably more than $70B+ accumulated nationwide.
