There is a misconception about what open source means in the business world. Many companies use open source to offload costs of feature development, bug fixes and support. The only thing you can expect from an open-source project is the freely available source code, which is more than you'd get from a company you're not a customer of. There are no other obligations from the maintainers toward your business. Essentially, an open-source maintainer has the same responsibilities to your business as a company whose software you've pirated. Aside from being illegal in most countries, they would ridicule you for demanding bug fixes, features, and support. Failing to understand this poses a significant risk to your company. Don't get me wrong, I would choose open source over closed source any day because it's superior and reduces business risks. It's similar to water: you need it to survive, but if consumed the wrong way, it can drown you.
