Chapter 1 of my just-published book on AI strategy is on planning, leadership and communication. These first #BookClub questions focus on establishing clear direction, cross-organizational (not just tech!) leadership buy-in and a coherent corporate vision — that all staff and stakeholders understand. ♦ Each bookclubber, write a one-paragraph internal communication that clearly outlines your company's AI priorities in a way all employees can understand. If you’re not in the c-suite, draft a paragraph you’d like your company’s leadership to have written — share it with them, if you dare! Share and discuss your paragraph with other members of your book club – what are the differences? Can you combine your ideas into one even more powerful paragraph? (Spoiler Alert: My book emphasizes that corporate messaging must position AI as an augmenter of work, an automator of the tedious — not an excuse for layoffs!) ♦ Chapter 1 also discusses the disconnect between engineering leaders and developers regarding AI's impact on productivity. What concrete, cross-functional mechanisms — like a dedicated experimentation week, a formalized feedback loop and certainly breaking down data silos — could your organization create to close this gap and encourage safe, bottom-up experimentation? ♦ My new book stresses the necessity of a top-down AI strategy to ensure reliability and security (read it before you fight me on that choice – or at least read the MIT results from a couple months ago.) There’s a lot of truth here, but also some hedging on both sides. Bottom line: 1. Chief Marketing Officers have never been taken seriously (and it’s mostly their own fault). 2. Every successive generation thinks it is its duty to push for innovation and unseat the generation before it. The fact is, we are in a state of transition now, and some people are not ready to take on that challenge, but they can make way for the next wave of leaders to do so. The AI transformation is real, and for some, it is simply too much to take on, knowing it will radically change what they have spent their entire careers doing. That's ok. Richard Stiennon great analysis. I put the odds at Gartner re-inventing itself for the AI age in any meaningful and impactful way at less that walking up to the roulette wheel and hitting 00 (that's 1/38 btw). Every market is a long tail now, and AI is going to crush the lead of bigger vendors. There is already quite a long tail of analysts, especially if you include the dozens based overseas. And while their quality and impact are very small right now, it would not surprise me to see a leveraged AI driven on emerge as the "next gartner", that is unless IT-Harvest does, which of course I am rooting for. I don't play individual stocks, but I would def be on the short side of #Gartner
