Everyone in healthtech says they’re building disruption. But if it doesn’t show up in patient care, team workflows, or clinical trust, it’s just noise, isn't it? Here’s what I’m watching closely right now: 1️⃣ Medicare telehealth is hanging by a thread The COVID-era waivers have been extended through September 2025. That’s 67 million seniors still connected to virtual care. But the industry is on edge. And, if Congress doesn’t act again, entire care models could be left scrambling. 2️⃣ AI is commanding healthtech investment, but with scrutiny VCs are still writing checks, but they’re asking for two things before they commit: 👉🏻Real clinical integration 👉🏻Clear, measurable ROI The days of demo-driven rounds are over. Teams like Omada Health and Abridge are setting a different bar, deep clinical alignment, and daily use. As someone building at the intersection of healthcare and tech, here’s where I land: ➡ Policy is not a headline, it’s a foundation. If reimbursements shift again, telehealth doesn’t bend, it breaks. ➡ AI is only useful if it reduces work. Nobody has time to ‘figure it out later.’ Adoption happens when tools show up seamlessly where people already work. And disruption? It’s not what you launch. It’s what survives. The teams I trust most aren’t optimizing for attention. They’re building systems that deliver, silently, when nobody’s watching. What’s one trend in healthtech that looks overhyped to you? Thanks Aaron Ferber! Just finished up a talk at HLTH on "Human Centered Design Principles in the Age of AI". Well attended, and well received. Couldn't have picked a better partner in Aaron Ferber @ Ascension, who has a background spanning startups and design consulting (IDEO) to mission driven health. We covered: 1. Funnels vs. Anti-funnels. Aka don't make patients download an app or you'll lose 70% of them. 2. Give value to get value. Make sure you have a "guest" experience - airlines & ecommerce figured this out long ago. 3. The power of "defaults". Aka when to use opt-in vs. opt-out and how radical a difference it made in say organ donation rates. 4. Test everything. You're wrong. You just don't know specifically how you're wrong until you test. Send your engineers into hospital/health facilities and have the sit in the waiting room for a couple of hours. 5. Using AI for a human touch. I.e. how to personalize at scale, what you know about education or reading level to alter the way you talk to patients. Full video in the next week or two. Here's what real satisfaction looks like in healthcare UX: ↳ Sighs-per-minute drop to zero during peak hours ↳ "Where the heck is..." searches decrease by 80% ↳ Mouse clicking sounds are meditative, not frantic ↳ Coffee-to-completion time improves significantly ↳ Shoulder tension measurably decreases during workflows ↳ Users stop googling "how to use [your product]" ↳ Bathroom break delays drop (users aren't avoiding the system) ↳ End-of-shift energy levels remain above survival mode ↳ Software becomes invisible to clinical thinking Real user satisfaction isn't surveyed, it's observed.

Hot take for designers experimenting with AI + legacy systems: You don’t have to pick one AI tool and hope it integrates perfectly with your design archive. If you can get to the code, you can make it work. I’ve been testing different AI platforms for strategy and prototyping. What I realized: You can use any AI tool you’re comfortable with to think, prototype, and generate UI — as long as it outputs code. Then: 1. Copy the generated code 2. Paste it into Figma Make 3. Let Figma rebuild it using your UI/style library 4. Edit, refine, and share inside your real system That means: • Strategy can live anywhere • Prototyping can move fast • Your design system still governs the final output AI becomes a thinking partner. Figma stays the system of record. For teams sitting on years of legacy designs and wondering how to bridge that with AI experimentation — this is a practical path. #DesignSystems #AIforDesign #Figma #ProductDesign #DesignOps

If you are building in HealthTech, You have to build something you know will either - fit seamlessly into the current workflow OR - disrupts a current broken workflow and builds it back with true effectiveness And you can only do this if you talk to clinicians Boots on the ground Taking care of patients Doing the admin tasks In the trenches Not their bosses Not their C-suite Not the crusty old RN or MD MBA who hasn’t done a set of vitals in 23 years (sorry) Not your college roommate or golfing buddy. It doesn’t have to be hard. It doesn’t have to break your budget. But you desperately need to validate your implementation to communicate value and drive adoption.
