Role Played – DevOps and Chef Consultant with following responsibilities:

• Coming out with a plan to automate the entire stack of applications (these would be the foundation for the industrial internet)
• Planning the entire CI/CD for the chef cookbooks, this includes tools like test kitchen, Jenkins and chef-spec for TDD (test driven development). This plan was presented to the CIO herself.
• Setting up for pre-prod and prod chef servers in AWS (multi-tier architecture)
• Evaluating and building a use case around packer, for building golden images.
• Solving problem through chef: sitting down with a domain expert and actually writing cookbooks for automation.

• Replacing the existing environment with docker containers. The LifeRay portals and Postgres (master and slave) were running inside the docker containers. ELB’s and route 53 was used to manage all the Liferay containers.

The business case was to create a fresh Infrastructure on AWS and then deployment of Cloudera CDH cluster along with CM and Kerberose security, and some other business intelligence and analytics tools deployment like tableau, Talend, Qlikview with connectors to CDH cluster. Automation of application installation,configuration and database restoration using opscode chef.

Role based provisioning system in cloud environment would enable the cloud user to configure different roles in the directory and map these roles to the different policies or rules decided by the user. The cloud vendor/provider would provide the cloud user with a configuration console through which this task would be carried out. By implementing this project, this console would act as a plug-in for all the applications deployed on the cloud. This console would be supported by a directory system as the back end. The cloud user would be able to configure the different roles (depending on his requirement).
