This article is a good reminder that we can generate metrics all day long. But the key is metrics that indicate risk. While the title is for MSPs to have a risk conversation in reviews, the lessons are good for any controls ownes by anyone. One rule of thumb when I evaluate metrics is to see if there are tolerances (eg should I be worried or not?) and then if I’m worried is there an action to take that will reduce risk. Now a counter to this …. I admit there is utility to counting large numbers such as attacks blocked at the firewall for “wow” numbers that let others know the threat is alive and our tooling is doing great. https://lnkd.in/gyCisbvw

Many health IT professionals reference the “Cures Act” when discussing APIs, USCDI updates, TEFCA, or information blocking. What often gets lost is the distinction between the Act itself and the regulations written under its authority. The 21st Century Cures Act passed in 2016. The operational details teams implement today were developed later through rulemaking. That hierarchy matters more than it might seem. When a configuration choice affects API access, data export, or exchange pathways, the discussion is rarely purely technical. These decisions often intersect with compliance, legal interpretation, vendor capability, and organizational governance. Recognizing that context encourages collaboration early, rather than correction later. Interoperability work works best when health IT, compliance, informatics, and leadership approach it as shared responsibility.
