Luma AI just dropped Ray3 with an impressive demo promising 4K HDR video. I decided to put it to the test. No cherry-picking, just raw results from 2 hours of use. Site: https://lumalabs.ai/ray 4k download link to watch without compression: https://lnkd.in/eBfte2gX ✨ What stood out: -Interface is smooth you can queue shots and run multiple variants at once. -Cheap to run half of my $30 credit gave me ~100–150 generations, draft mode is a great feature! -Camera motion looks strong. -Fast turnaround. ⚠️ Where it struggles: -720p looks solid, HD is fine but 4K falls apart. The upscale looks more like low-poly CGI than real 4K. -Prompts aren’t followed well. Even simple prompts like “static camera” took multiple retries. -Every usable shot took 6-10 variants. -Close-ups look good, but medium/wide shots suffer from the usual AI quirks. 🔥 What really annoyed me The tech demo on their website looks like absolute fire. Trying to recreate those shots was a bit of a failure. Sure, I managed to get the camera motion and scene in there but only after a shotgun approach of endless iterations. And even then, the image quality never came close to their demo material. It suffers from the same issue as Veo3: amazing marketing, but the actual results require endless “slot machining.” 💡 Takeaway Ray3 has potential the speed and pricing are great but right now, Seedream still delivers stronger results overall for a cheaper price. Happy to announce our new research paper, "Native Mixed Reality Compositing on Meta Quest 3: A Quantitative Feasibility Study of ARM-Based SoCs and Thermal Headroom," is now published as a preprint on arXiv. Our research quantifies a critical bottleneck for next-generation mixed reality content creation: the persistent reliance on external PC hardware for high-quality compositing. By conducting a detailed feasibility study, we analyze the thermal and performance capabilities of the Meta Quest 3's native hardware, the Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 SoC. Our findings provide a critical benchmark, revealing the true potential and limitations of standalone headsets for next-generation MR experiences. Once 2d-to-dimensionally-accurate-spatial-design is consistent, we’ll see most creative, architectural, and technical studios migrate to this type of solution. Sketch to model to maquette, to technical drawings will be able to be executed in multiple pipelines simultaneously in minutes versus days. Testing a use case with Luma AI where I manually rotate a video and then fill in the missing areas with Reframe. Why am I doing this? Because you don't always have a lot of control over synthetic footage.  This gives an added degree of control that could come in very handy in certain situations.

Proud moment for our team. The Ankler just ranked Autodesk Flow Studio #1 on its list of “8 AI Companies Doing This the Right Way (and Won’t Get You Sued).” What resonated most is the framing: AI as an assistant, not an auteur, built to integrate into existing VFX workflows, preserve human performance, and expand creative ambition without replacing artists. Ethical, defensible, production-ready AI isn’t the loudest path, but it’s the one that scales long-term. AI is a topic that keeps coming up in game development right now, and depending on who you ask, it’s either the future or the end of creativity. Personally, I think the reality is much more nuanced. In my latest video, I take a look at Autodesk Flow Studio, a tool that uses AI for things like motion capture, camera tracking, and quick 3D ideation. The interesting part isn’t replacing artists, but how tools like this can help prototype ideas faster, especially for indie developers and smaller studios. I also brought in Yogi Patel, Character Art Director at REKiNDLED Studios, to test the text-to-3D and image-to-3D tools from a professional artist’s perspective. There are definitely limitations, but it’s fascinating to see how these tools might support the early stages of game development. Curious to hear what others in the industry think.
