At CES 2026, we spoke with Kai Stepper, VP of ADAS and Autonomous Driving at Lucid, about their production-intent robotaxi built on the NVIDIA DRIVE Hyperion platform. He also shared why Alpamayo’s open, reasoning-based approach is an important step forward for the future of autonomous driving.

https://lnkd.in/gWystmb8 Waymo is planning to expand its robotaxi service to the San Francisco Peninsula (Brisbane, South San Francisco, etc.), Silicon Valley (Palo Alto, Menlo Park), and Los Angeles (Sunset Boulevard, etc.). With California's expansion approval and operating 250,000 rides per week with 1,500 vehicles, Waymo is gaining an advantage in the market competition ahead of Tesla's Austin robotaxi launch. Despite recently receiving approval to expand operations to the San Jose area, Waymo is delaying the launch as part of a cautiouscommercialization plan. This represents a gradual expansion strategy that considers regional regulations and demand, while prioritizing the maintenance of stable service quality.

Intel lays off hundreds of engineers in California, including chip design engineers and architects — automotive chip division also gets the axe Intel has begun cutting jobs in California as part of its cost-cutting and restructuring strategy introduced by CEO Lip-Bu Tan. The move comes two months after Tan warned that staff reductions were unavoidable and that 15% - 20% of the company's staff would be laid off. Officially, Intel is eliminating excessive management layers, but a CRN report indicates that the company is surprisingly laying off chip design engineers and architects.
