Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Byron V. Acohido nailed it in his latest piece with this observation -> “The more people prompt these [AI] models, the more the results blur into sameness.” He points to LinkedIn, where even “bold takes" on digital transformation often sound identical— they “all carry the same flattened cadence, polished to the point of meaninglessness.” Stephen Klein, CEO of Curiouser.AI, put it even more succinctly: “The more you prompt, the more you regress to the mean.” Prompting can feel like personalization—but in reality, it may be sanding down originality. I share their concern: a subtle sameness is creeping in. I've seen it happening to my blog, because yes, I've used GenAI to provide me with first drafts, enjoying the speed and ease of generating content. All of this is a reminder: if we’re not intentional, we risk losing our distinct voices, ideas, and perspectives. But it’s not all doom and gloom. Acohido also introduces the idea of “Editorial Ascent”—the inverse of regression. It’s what happens when agentic AI is paired with strong editorial judgment to create clarity, originality, and decision-grade insight.
