Proliferated LEO architectures quietly fail for one reason we don’t model honestly: there is no way for systems to stop without being removed from service. When a constellation operates at scale, small degradations, (structural drift, cumulative damage, interface misalignment) don’t trigger alarms. They trigger fuel burn. Collision avoidance becomes routine. Assets stay maneuvering instead of productive. Attrition becomes an accepted cost of “resilience.” That’s not a propulsion problem. It’s an architectural one. National security systems that must persist can’t rely indefinitely on replacement as a control strategy. They need a physical execution layer that allows assets to pause, be serviced, reinforced, and deliberately returned to operation; without leaving orbit. Wet Dock exists to provide that layer. Not after failure. Before scale makes failure inevitable.

For those working in aerospace development , especially in new platform programs, transitioning from MRO to development, or operating under certification timelines . Where do you see the biggest disconnect in practice? 1. Is it between operational intent and engineering implementation? 2. Between system models and what development teams actually build? 3. Between certification expectations and the realities of integration, testing, production, maintenance, and lifecycle support? 4. Does growing documentation across multiple phases help preserve engineering clarity, or does it sometimes make critical technical meaning harder for development teams to retain under schedule pressure? The NOTAM Outages Earlier this year, the FAA’s NOTAM system went offline. For those unfamiliar, NOTAMs—short for “Notices to Airmen”—are safety alerts sent directly to pilots. They cover everything from closed taxiways to hazards in the airspace. Without them, flights don’t move. When the system went dark, the impact was immediate. According to FlightAware, more than 3,200 flights were delayed and 170 canceled within the first day. The following day, delays nearly doubled. Airlines called the outage a national safety risk, and Congress pointed to the system’s fragile, outdated design. This isn’t the first time. In January 2023, a NOTAM failure forced the FAA to issue the first nationwide ground stop since 9/11—over 32,000 delays in a single day. That should have been the wake-up call. Aviation runs on real-time, reliable information. When it stops, the whole system grinds to a halt. The lesson is clear: safety infrastructure must be as resilient as the aircraft it serves.
