🗞️ New York lawmakers have passed legislation mandating GHG disclosure for large companies, another clear signal that climate transparency is accelerating at the state level! The bill would require companies with $1B+ in revenue operating in New York to disclose Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions, with phased reporting beginning in 2027. Even as federal timelines evolve, expectations from regulators, lenders, boards, and customers are not slowing down. Carbon data is quickly becoming a governance and financial risk issue, not just a sustainability initiative. This is ultimately a data challenge. Platforms like Atrius Energy & Sustainability, part of Acuity Brands, help organizations centralize energy and emissions data, automate ingestion, reduce manual processes, and strengthen audit readiness across locations. The companies that treat carbon data as enterprise infrastructure, not spreadsheets, will be best positioned as regulation tightens. I really enjoyed this conversation with Charlie Martin. We need a paradigm shift. In her seminal work, 'Thinking in Systems', Donella Meadows outlined why standards are the very worst way to change systems. Relying on standards will prevent, rather than help, us create the future we need and want. Being 'evidence-informed' is very different from being 'evidence-based' or 'evidence-led'. #standards #systemsthinking #paradigmshift

Food waste is massive, measurable, and still heavily under-engineered. We pour attention into big breakthroughs and to some extent rightly so. But reducing food waste is something that moves the needle very directly: economically, environmentally, and socially. The numbers are jaw-dropping. The real question is what we do about them. The only way to tackle problems of this scale is to make them tangible and decompose them: Break them down, bit by bit. Where does waste start? Where does visibility end? Where can better processes, data, traceability, and timing change decisions? Technology won’t fix this in one leap, but engineered step by step, it can make supply chains more transparent, more resilient, and less wasteful. Some problems deserve more spotlight. They may not be the flashiest ones, but they matter.
