I was saying the same thing to one of my engineers this morning. I think practices like TDD are even more relevant now with Gen AI tooling. I had an experience recently where my IDE was generating a solution that failed the unit test suite. Since it was instructed to author code, run the tests and ask if I wanted to refactor or commit; it attempted to correct the failing code multiple times. It failed three times to create a working solution. After the third attempt it deleted the entire class and started from scratch. On this attempt all of the unit tests passed. The code was solid. Without well authored unit tests, the IDE wouldn't have known it's implementation was flawed. For me to read each block of generated code and debug it in my head would be just as unlikely. That's why we write unit tests. If you're a human computer on legs and you can keep all of that context in your head and simulate the code on sight alone; by all means write your code without a test suite. However, for the rest of us mortals and apparently the AI code genies too; unit tests are the price for professional and reliable code.

When you're waiting for your coding agent be done, I'm genuinely curious, what are you doing? Are you watching it run, working on something else, or on social medias? It feel silly to wait 20-30 minutes, but we all know how inefficient context switching can be.

LLMs are obsessed with prematurely optimizing React code. They love overusing useCallback/useMemo. If their training data is updated to learn React 19 with the opt-in React compiler, we will hopefully see less of this happening.

 I've been building a NextJS app with Claude Code CLI for months.  Quietly. Head down. Just coding.  But I kept hitting these problems that I couldn't easily find documented anywhere:  • Context dying between sessions  • Re-explaining the same decisions over and over  • Memory files that became bloated  So I figured it out. Trial and error. Lots of error.  And then I thought: "Maybe other groups are running into the same kind of problem"  So I'm going to start documenting what I learn as I go.  First topic: Session vs Memory in Claude Code CLI  The mistake I made? I thought more documentation = better memory.  Wrong.  My "memory files" grew to 2000+ lines each. I almost shipped a financial calculator that would have cost someone thousands of dollars. As a Senior Frontend Engineer building calculator-all.com with TypeScript and Next.js 15, I rely on speed to maintain 300+ tools. 🚀 Last week, I was using Cursor and GitHub Copilot to scaffold a new investment growth tool. The AI was flying through the Tailwind CSS layouts and Bun scripts like a pro. It looked perfect. The code was clean, the UI was snappy, and I felt like a 10x developer. Then I looked at the math. 🛑 The AI had hallucinated a compound interest formula that sounded confident but was fundamentally broken. It completely ignored the nuances of monthly vs. annual compounding periods. Even worse, it fell into the classic floating-point math trap that we all know and love in JS. If I hadn't stepped in with manual logic verification and unit tests, I would have provided thousands of users with false data. 💸 AI is a superpower for boilerplate, but it doesn't understand the high stakes of financial precision. I spent three hours refactoring the logic by hand to ensure every cent was accounted for. With coding agents it doesn't make sense not to have a software engineer on basically every team and every company now. The amount of leverage you can get with a single hire is tremendous.
