  • Compressive Sensing in Speech from LPC using Gradient Projection for Sparse Reconstruction

International Journal of Engineering Research and Applications

This paper presents compressive sensing technique used for speech reconstruction using linear predictive coding because the speech is more sparse in LPC. DCT of a speech is taken and the DCT points of sparse speech are thrown away arbitrarily. This is achieved by making some point in DCT domain to be zero by multiplying with mask functions. From the incomplete points in DCT domain, the original speech is reconstructed using compressive sensing and the tool used is Gradient Projection for Sparse…

From the incomplete points in DCT domain, the original speech is reconstructed using compressive sensing and the tool used is Gradient Projection for Sparse Reconstruction. The performance of the result is compared with direct IDCT subjectively. The experiment is done and it is observed that the performance is better for compressive sensing than the DCT.

  • Exploiting speech source information for vowel landmark detection for low resource language

9th International Symposium on Chinese Spoken Language Proc., ISCSLP’14, Singapore.

Landmarks are the time instants in a speech signal which marks important events (such as vowels, consonants and glides) in the speech signal. This paper proposes use of novel vowel landmark detection (VLD) algorithm for low resourced language, viz., Gujarati, an Indian language.

Projects

  • Beaumont Crime Data Analysis

    -

Analyzed Beaumont crime data to understand patterns in the recorded crime, predicted susceptible residents using logistic regression and decision trees, enlisted possible gaps that led to long response time from the police department and conducted hypothesis testing to evaluate possible reasons.

    Tools used: Tableau, SAS.

Developed a script to retrieve recent tweets about movie and classified into positive, negative and neutral tweets using Naïve Bayes Classification. The rating of movie can be calculated using mathematical formula based on number of positive, negative and neutral sentiments of tweets.

Tools: Python (Pandas, NumPy, Scikit-Learn, NLTK). Data bases: Manually labelled 2000 tweets.

  • Research report on Use of Lean Six Sigma in Software Development

    -

Lean Six-sigma is a joint effort of improving the performance or standards of products or service and reducing the muda.In a way there are two focus points, six sigma focuses quality, customers’ needs and reducing defects while lean focuses on product cycle and in reducing the waste. The purpose of this article is the integration of Lean and Six sigma in the software development process. This research work was published in Lamar University press with support of Dr. Brena Tokgoz.

An organizational ethics can be defined as the set of principles that is used by an organization to respond internal and external stimulus. This chapter discusses the importance of ethics in an organization, possible challenges faced by the engineering managers, possible solutions to such challenges and improvements in ethics of an organization. This research work was published in Lamar University press with support of Dr. Brena Tokgoz.

  • Vowel Landmark Detection (VLD) for speech recognition

    -

Developed a script to detect and recognize the instances of vowels in given speech utterance using supervised machine learning algorithm. Loudness and zero crossing rate of zero frequency resonated signal were used as a feature to detect the vowel landmarks. Further, formant frequencies of vowels were used as features to recognize the detected vowels.

    Guide :
This project explores image compression using Singular value decomposition (SVD) matrics. The image is divided into various sub-blocks and depending on the image complexity, the number of elements in S.V.D are determined to compress the image. This project was completed under the guidance of Dr. Anjan Ghosh.

Instead of blades, Laser is used to cut different metal sheets, glass, diamond and all other
hard things. It’s one kind of CNC machine in which two stepper motors displaces the laser to
calibrated distance. As one enters the dimension of plate (L X B) the system calibrates the
linear distance in terms of angular displacement of motor.
