Good News! 📣📣📣 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE June 18, 2025 Connecticut Diesel Tax to Drop July 1: A Welcome Relief for Trucking Industry and Consumers Amid Rising Middle East Tensions Cromwell, CT: Connecticut consumers may soon see some relief at the checkout counter, thanks to a decrease in the state diesel fuel tax that will ease transportation costs for essential goods like groceries, diapers, and medications. "Everyday essentials don't magically appear on store shelves. They’re delivered by truck," said Chris Herb, President and CEO of the Connecticut Energy Marketers Association (CEMA). "A drop in the diesel tax means lower operating costs for the businesses that keep our economy running, and that relief will ultimately show up in the prices people pay at the grocery store or pharmacy or just about any other store.” Effective July 1, 2025, Connecticut’s on-road diesel fuel tax will decrease by 3.5 cents per gallon, dropping from 52.4 cents to 48.9 cents per gallon. This marks a 7 percent reduction, according to a recent notice from the Connecticut Department of Revenue Services. The annual adjustment is based on the average wholesale diesel price from the prior year. Because diesel prices were lower in 2024, the formula triggered this year’s tax cut. Herb noted that this tax reduction applies exclusively to diesel fuel, not gasoline. While most passenger vehicles use gasoline, diesel powers the majority of trucks that transport goods and supplies throughout the state. "This decrease comes at a critical time," Herb added. "With tensions rising in the Middle East and crude oil prices trending upward, a break on diesel costs provides some needed relief. It's not just the trucking industry that benefits — it’s everyone who relies on the goods they deliver." About CEMA: The Connecticut Energy Marketers Association is a non-profit organization that advocates on behalf of Connecticut’s liquid fuel industry. On the motor fuels side, CEMA’s members own, operate, and deliver fuel to over 1,000 gas stations and convenience stores in the state.

✈️ Exciting developments at Atlantic City International Airport (ACY) ACY is a joint civil–military airport — home to the NJ Air National Guard’s 177th Fighter Wing, the U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City, and a major FAA Research & Development Division. The South Jersey Transportation Authority (SJTA) is now building a 250,000 sq. ft. Cargo Center on-site, and just across the street, the Atlantic Logistics Center (ALC) is developing 400 acres with 3.5 million sq. ft. of new warehouse and logistics space. Our team at Princeton Logistics Group (PLG Air Cargo) is actively in discussions with airport officials, developers, and regional air carriers to establish operations at ACY. Northeast Blizzard Disrupts Port & Drayage Operations Today’s nor’easter has significantly impacted freight flows across the Northeast corridor. The Port of New York and New Jersey is temporarily shut down due to severe snowfall and sustained high winds, halting container terminal activity at APM Elizabeth, Maher, PNCT, and Port Liberty. Transit delays of 24–48+ hours (or longer) are expected as yards reopen and congestion clears. Compounding factors include: • NYC travel bans limiting truck movement • Icy road conditions and widespread power outages • Rail delays affecting regional intermodal networks • Air cargo cancellations across key Northeast gateways • Increased trucking surcharges and tightened carrier capacity Drayage networks are under strain, and inland congestion is building as appointment windows are missed and equipment availability tightens. Shippers with freight moving through the NY/NJ gateway should anticipate rolling delays and consider flexible delivery windows through the week. Perishable freight is receiving priority, but backlog recovery will take time.
