It’s essential to analyze campaign performance and trends within the industry in order to provide the most effective guidance to clients to help them achieve their advocacy goals.   VoterVoice, a digital grassroots advocacy tool, released its 2025 State of Advocacy Report, which found that advocacy professionals can implement the following strategies to drive advocates to take action:   1. Strategically boost engagement by creating compelling subject lines, communicating concisely, and segmenting distribution lists. 2. Keep messages short and sweet to grab advocates' attention. 3. Engage your audience thoughtfully by varying your topics, making a direct ask in the first paragraph, and limiting yourself to a couple of campaigns per week. 4. Show appreciation for your advocates and let them know their efforts directly impact the outcome. 5. Yesterday I spoke at the American Marketing Association Winter Academic Conference about something I never expected to work on as a marketing scholar: Fertility decline. Not branding. Not customer journeys. Not B2B strategy. Birth rates. Across much of the world, fertility is now far below replacement. Governments keep adding incentives, such as money, maternity leave, childcare, and the numbers barely move. It made me realize something simple: We keep treating this as a cost and feasibility problem. But for many people, it’s an identity problem. It’s not “Can I afford a child?” It’s “Does this life fit who I want to be?” That second question is cultural and psychological. And that’s exactly marketing’s territory. We already use marketing to change behavior in health, sustainability, and financial inclusion. So why is fertility completely absent from our field’s agenda? My view (and yes, it’s a bit provocative): Marketing should be part of demographic policy. Not to persuade or moralize. But to reduce stigma, reshape narratives, and make different paths to parenthood feel legitimate and compatible with modern life. In other words, complement structural policy with cultural work. This project is far from my core B2B research. I started exploring it out of pure curiosity, the kind that got many of us into academia in the first place. I’m still learning, still testing ideas, and very open to pushback.
