Assign unique user IDs to bulk manage users in LinkedIn Admin Center

Last updated: 6 months ago

As a Product Settings and Account Center Admin, you can edit attributes of users’ enterprise profiles in bulk. This includes the user’s email address, first name, last name, phone number, and more. This doesn't affect their personal LinkedIn profile.

We recommend assigning each user a unique ID so if users have identical first and last names, you can update information for the correct user when you perform bulk actions using a CSV.

Here’s a summary of the steps to assign unique user IDs:

  • Download the CSV file for editing.
  • Make the necessary updates in the CSV file and save it to your device.
  • Upload the updated CSV file to process the changes.

To assign a unique user ID:

  1. Move your cursor over your profile picture at the top of your Recruiter homepage and select Manage users in Admin Center from the dropdown.

  2. Click Manage users via CSV then select Download all users via CSV or Download filtered users via CSV.

    • To download specific users, you can filter by licenses, permissions, and attributes by clicking the box and selecting from the dropdown.
  3. In the User attributes box, select Unique user id and any additional attributes you'd like to edit.

  4. Click Download CSV. A copy of your user list and customized fields will be exported.

  5. Open the CSV file in Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, or a text editor application such as Microsoft Notepad.

  6. Add a column to the file using the header: unique_user_id.

  7. Assign a unique ID to each user. Don't input duplicate IDs.

    • Any combination of alpha-numeric characters is accepted.
  8. Save the file as a CSV file type on your device.

  9. Return to the Users tab in LinkedIn Admin Center.

  10. Click Manage users via CSV and select Upload CSV file from the dropdown.

  11. Click Upload CSV.

  12. Select your CSV file to upload. The upload will begin immediately.

A confirmation message will appear to verify that your upload was successful. You can view the unique user ID below Employee ID on the user’s enterprise profile.
