Selfie check for password reset

Last updated: 2 years ago

LinkedIn is committed to account safety and security and provides features to help ensure your account is secure. As an additional layer of security, when resetting your password LinkedIn may prompt you to provide a live selfie. You will see a prompt to begin the live selfie check after clicking on Forgot password? and verifying your email.

To approve the password reset with live selfie check:

  1. Scan the QR code with your mobile device.

  2. Follow the instructions on your mobile device to complete the live selfie check.

Note: You must allow camera access to complete a selfie check. If you do not grant camera access on your mobile device, you will not be able to complete the selfie check.

  3. Once the live selfie check is successfully completed, return to your original device to complete password reset.

Alternatively, if you do not want to or cannot complete a live selfie check, you can select Use your government ID instead and proceed to identity verification. Learn more about identity verification and what types of identification are accepted.

How does it work?

Selfie check uses Microsoft Entra Verified ID technology to match your live selfie with your LinkedIn profile photo. The live selfie and profile photo will only be used for identity verification and will be deleted after verification is completed.

LinkedIn processes the results of the live selfie and profile photo matching for the purpose of account access and retains it only while your account issues are being resolved. You can read more information about how we handle your data in our Privacy Policy here.
