Important to know

Search results are always approximate and the actual results may differ from the results counter at the top of search results page.

Search Results
If the member you’re searching for is your connection, their profile(s) is displayed at the top of the search results page. You can either message them or view their profile from the search results page. You might also see different sections displaying the member’s activity and posts mentioning the member.

If the member isn’t your connection, available actions depend on their profile settings and may include View profile, Follow, or Connect. Select See all people results to view members with the same name, or use the People tab and available filters to refine your search.

To search for a specific person on LinkedIn:

  1. Enter your keyword(s) or a natural language query into the Search bar at the top of the page.

  2. Select the member from suggestions that appear in the dropdown, or type in your full search query, then press Enter or click See all results to view the full search results page.

  3. Click the People filter on the top of the page (if it's not selected).

Here's a tip

You can use All Filters to refine your search with various criteria, such as Degree of connections, Actively hiring (a Premium feature), Locations, Current company, Connections of, Followers of, Past company, School, Industry, Profile language, Open to volunteering, Service categories, and Keywords.

Using natural language to find people (AI-powered people search)

LinkedIn’s updated search experience can understand the meaning behind your query, not just exact keywords so you can search more conversationally.

Examples:

  • Career coaches who can help with public speaking
  • Finance leaders at nonprofits in Boston
  • People I know who work at LinkedIn
  • Social media marketers at LinkedIn in CA
  • People I know who went to the University of Alabama

To make your search experience faster, you can include details like company, role, title or location directly into the search bar instead of relying only on filters. More detailed queries often lead to better results.

Notes:

  • Don't use any quotes in your search query, because natural language search does not support quotes.
  • If you prefer exact keyword matching, you can use Boolean search instead.
