We’re proud to share that two GF leaders have been honored by the Manufacturing Institute (MI) with 2026 STEP Ahead Awards, recognizing excellence and leadership across the manufacturing industry. Dr. Isabelle Ferain, vice president of product development engineering, was named a STEP Ahead Champion for her impactful allyship, global leadership of GF’s GlobalWomen employee resource group and national advocacy for STEM and inclusion. Kylee Coffey, senior director of integration, yield and controls engineering, was named a STEP Ahead Honoree, recognized for more than two decades of technical leadership, operational excellence, mentorship and community impact at GF in Burlington, Vermont. Presented by the MI, the STEP Ahead Awards celebrate leaders who are shaping the future of manufacturing, from the factory floor to the C-suite. Water is a critical part of the semiconductor manufacturing process. Today, more than 40% of GF's total water use comes from recycled or reused sources, and we have cut water use by 22% per unit of production since 2020. On the waste side, GF teams reduced total waste by 27% and hazardous waste by 33% per unit of production compared to 2020 through smarter recipes, extended bath life and process optimization. GF raised the bar. We now target a 42% cut in absolute Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 2030, up from 25%. In 2025, completed projects avoided approximately 105,000 metric tons of CO2e. That is the equivalent of removing roughly 23,000 cars from the road. Our teams saved approximately 76 million kWh of electricity last year. That is enough to power roughly 7,000 U.S. homes for a full year. It adds up to approximately 25,000 metric tons of CO2e avoided and millions in cost savings. #EarthWeek #EnergyEfficiency

GlobalFoundries' silicon photonics program began as the industry was exploring the idea that the same silicon platform powering the world's electronics could also carry light. Ethan Y. Bian joined GF in 2017 as our first silicon photonics R&D engineer at Fab 8 and continues to help lead the work today. Now, nearly ten years later, he has been named an Optica Fellow, one of the highest honors in photonics and optical engineering.
