Here I have to disagree with the article and other contributor. Query performance will depend on the data model. Traversing more than one entity could be bad for performance. If by denormalizing some data you could avoid using multiple joins/lookups you will find that denormalization will improve query performance because by just looking into one entity you will find all the data you need. If you think about it from a deep OS POV this will traduce into less read operations done by the kernel. So I would say that this will depend on the complexity of the data model.
