Simple question that does not have simple answer :) answer is similar to other programming languages, so follow KISS principle and test it carefully. If possible, split roles of developer and tester (manual and automatic). Testing against use-cases is crucial point.

Comments should not explain what the code does. Rather they should explain why it does it this way. If you think, you need a comment to explain what your code perfomrs, it is the sign you should rewrite the code in the way it is understandable without comments.

Automated tests also can show how the code supposed to be used. This can help you get ideas on use cases in addition to comments.

Doing internal testing by component wise and project wise makes the whole project error free. Most of the time it will unless you get an unpredictable scenario while UAT. but that also can be handled using error handling.

While implementing try-except clauses, keep in mind that try block should be as short as possible. They slows down your code execution and usually you want to exactly know where the error came from. The shorter the try block the sooner you will find the error. In the except clause be as specific as possible. While using no argument or Exception is possible, they won't give information about the error and can mask the error you didn't expect.

Even though we developed as per Business requirements as documented. In the real scenario most of the time there will be more possible outcomes. We can't always predict exactly. for that situation we can use error handling audit trail.
