From my experience, before ever analyzing the failure, I think it's important to identify and have a high-level understanding of the components and systems that make up your enterprise's framework. Understanding these beforehand will make it easily identifiable whether it is in the back end or front end. This is, of course, assuming you have a good idea of the monitoring controls within each component. From unit tests to automated functional tests, and the dependencies each one of these may currently have in place.

You should also reproduce the failure in different scenarios and conditions to see if it persists or changes.

Finding the cause, inherently it's important to view traces of the issues. Looking at the cause of the issue can start with determining if it's related to latency, timeouts, or exceptions. Logs will prove to be handy, but running a variety of tests is invaluable. The more data you have behind the executions, the better. These tests can range from simple functional API tests to trying API load tests. There's no one sure way to isolate or connect the dots. However, following proper testing procedures in all steps of the SDLC definitely helps speed up the process of getting to the root cause of any unexpected failure. Taking initiative and staying proactive in the projects helps prevent and better mitigate unexpected failures within projects.

The third step is to identify the source of the failure and locate the specific component, module, or function that is responsible for it. You should use debugging tools, code analysis, breakpoints, or tracing techniques to examine the code and find the exact line or statement that causes the failure.
