In my experience, using Git is just the the tip of the iceberg and not a magic bullet to fix all the collaboration related issues that arise when multiple features and SDETs are working on same repo. Using feature branch approach for major features where the automation is happening in-sprint with dev work. 3. Adding git hooks and triggering an entire suite level automation whenever a major feature is getting merged to main to avoid any test breaks.

This is extremely important especially during the earlier stages of a project (not that during mid or the end is unneeded.) - don't cut any corner - during the initial phase the focus should be much more geared towards finding ways to refactor and improve then to write test cases itself, actually the test case should be more of an exploratory way to open new windows so you can refactor your code - Be a visionary , try to understand what will challenge the project in the future and make amends - Be eager to research and get more critical opinions on the project (be it by code reviews, asking questions, researching similar challenges, experimenting, etc) - Try do do less while keeping a balanced approach to not overgrow the complexity.

There are various tools and frameworks that enable us to automate tests efficiently such as selenium, TestNG, etc. Automation eliminates the risk of manual errors by 100% Automation reduces time taken to test all the features of a product, it helps us achieve maximum code coverage. Automation combined with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, saves manual efforts and time tremendously as tests can be run periodically in the background. While there is a possibility to miss trivial bugs with manual testing, automation makes sure each tiny aspect of the product is tested periodically(e.g, daily) to make sure everything works as expected smoothly.

1. Automated Test Design vs Manual Test design. It may be not the best idea to just convert a manual test to automated test verbatim. You may not be able to optimize a manual test definition but you can definitely optimize code. 10 manual tests could potentially be just 1 test script with 10 different test data sets or worst case 10 different sets of test script with associated test data. Regardless you can still optimize code. 2. Not all manual test should be converted to automated test. Just because you can does not mean you should. Test coverage needs to be considered - less number of test with higher coverage is better than a lot of tests for the same test coverage.

Most testers are aware of traceability matrices - that is mapping tests back to requirements for purposes of coverage. ( do not confuse this coverage with code coverage at source code unit test level ). For manual tests when using tools such as ALM for e.g., this is capability is built into the software. You might want to also consider how to apply traceability to automated tests. For e.g. applying tags to cucumber features or scenarios to identify which tests apply to which requirements / features. e.g the specific requirement number or a JIRA-XXX id number for the feature. This does add extra work to maintain this traceability ( same applies to manual tests ) but this can also be helpful to identify tests when requirements are changed.
