Adhering to SOLID principles is vital when building OO programs. For example, ensuring a child class can replace its parent class (Liskov Substitution). Avoid overengineering, don't use tools for the sake of having them; we use very little inheritance at my work, but we use polymorphism copiously as it makes sense in a variety of cases (overloaded methods remain quite clear). Extract method parameters into objects (such as EVs) in cases with > 4/5 parameters - method parameters can easily get difficult to keep track of and read. If parameters are being passed through multiple methods, carefully consider whether that's necessary - this makes it difficult to determine where the parameters have come from when examining code pre-debugging.

Liskov substitution and Inversion of control. I’d say these are extremely important principles that keep software safe and maintainable. Even when using patterns that are considered “Anti-patterns” by some (myself included). They offer separation of concerns out of the box and loose coupling. Dependency inversion would be the cherry on top. In my work we use inheritance a lot and depend on polymorphism for the majority of the toolings and services. We adhere to the said principles and I can say that maintainability is a breeze.

Structuring your project in micro loosely-coupled services plays a vital role. We often hear about Fat-Controllers, Slim Models, or vice-versa in the MVC pattern but the truth is what "S" in SOLID says, It's a Single-Responsibility Principle and it defines a "SOLID" base of your system. Your controller doesn't need to know the underlying functionality since its job is accepting requests and dispatching responses. Similarly, Segregating your features to unit classes with separation of concerns help you maintain your app easily and efficiently.

I must say I don't quite like how the term 'secure' sometimes mixed with 'reliable' in that article. Reliability usually used in a way to describe how software conforms to the business requirements, covers possible edge cases. And it goes in hand with mantainability - describes now easy it is to add new features to existing code, change it and how hard it is to intruduce new bugs during that process. Where code security is quite orthogonal to these terms and usually describe set of knowledge and practics to protect running code from external intentional or random malicious influence, that can cause deviation in behavior.

Using design patterns when needed and as apropiate. Many frameworks abstract the used design patterns. If the used frameworks would become standards with excelent documentation and/or on request the source code would be available for read and even for change this would make life of programmer easier and the code robust. Security concerned maybe virtual environments (as docker) could expose used frameworks as services.

Several factors are relevant for me including: - A code review ensures the code is meeting all secure coding standards like OWASP guidelines. - Stay on top of the latest security trends and threats. -With static code analysis tools, I can identify vulnerabilities much earlier in the development phase. - Ensure that your third-party libraries and dependencies are updated. - There are tools such as OWASP Dependency-Check and Snyk to automate this work. -Implementing comprehensive security testing, including unit tests, integration tests, and penetration testing. -Applying the principle of least privilege to both user permissions and code execution. -Ensuring that data is encrypted at rest and in transit.

This topic is full of small inconsistencies. When it is stated that "OOP offers improved readability and reusability of code", it also must be stated "over what". As this is the first topic, we can't assume it is an improvement over anything that came earlier as, well, there's nothing that came earlier in this article. Similar to topic number 1, what is procedural programming improving upon? If we just assume the order of topics, it seems Procedural programming is improving over both Object-Oriented Programming and Functional Programming, which is not really the case.

Whatever programming paradigm you choice, it all ends with peer review or AI review regarding safety. In our environment any code which is submitted through pull request using devops, one or more reviewers are required. The question is however how these peer reviewers are talking the job seriously and are actually looking at the code and not blindy pressing the approve button. Trust and goverance are key to these peer reviews, but with the latest development AI can play a critical role in automating this process. Remember that coding is quite logical and strict. Even if you have multiple solutions for 1 problem, any solution will still be logical. With this in mind am AI is able to review any code and detect any defects and vulnerabilities.

Martin Fowler’s testing pyramid is a language-independent framework for assessing software correctness. These are computationally expensive to run.

Having unit tests in place for testing every possible inputs makes the code robust. Code coverage is a measurement of how much of the code is tested in unit tests.
